Private Airport Transfers: When They Make Sense

A private transfer means a driver is waiting for you, with your name on a sign, at a price agreed in advance. For some trips, that certainty is worth paying for.

Private transfers are booked through transfer companies, hotels or travel agents. The price is usually fixed per vehicle, not per person, which can make them competitive for families and groups.

When it's worth it

  • Late night arrivals when other transport is limited.
  • Travelling with children, older relatives or lots of luggage.
  • Destinations without reliable official taxis.
  • Business trips where time matters.
  • First visits to a city where you don't speak the language.

What to confirm when booking

Give the company your flight number, not just the arrival time. Ask how long the driver will wait if the flight is late or if baggage takes a while. Confirm whether tolls, parking and waiting time are included in the price.

Meet and greet

Usually the driver waits in the arrivals hall with a sign. At some airports drivers are not allowed inside and you meet at a designated point. The confirmation should explain exactly where to go. If you can't find your driver, call rather than leave with someone else.

Return journeys

For the return trip, think about how early you need to arrive at the airport. Discuss pick-up time with the company, they usually know local traffic patterns better than map apps.
