What to Do After a Missed Connection

You land, look at the screen, and your onward flight has gone. What happens next depends largely on how the trip was booked.

If both flights are on a single booking, the airline is usually responsible for getting you to your destination. Go to the transfer desk or the airline's service desk. Many airlines rebook automatically and send the new details by app or email.

Single ticket: what to do

  • Check the airline app for automatic rebooking.
  • Go to the transfer desk if there's no update.
  • Ask about meal vouchers or a hotel if the next flight is much later.
  • Confirm your checked bags will be transferred to the new flight.

Separate tickets

If you booked the flights separately, the second airline normally treats you as a no-show. You may need to buy a new ticket. Some booking platforms offer connection protection, so check the terms of your booking.
